Bethany Beach

My parents, Kim, Becca and Henry, Julie and her 3 kiddos, and my family left New York Monday and drove to our house. We ate dinner packed up a few more things and let the kids play. After a short break, we drove on down to Bethany Beach where we were renting a beach house for the week. It was really humid down there and rained a few days, but we were still able to venture out on the beach. We had a great time. Grandpa was the favorite. Damon was often saying Grandpa phrases like "hey kiddo" and "hey you." He was nice to play Go Fish with them and help them jump the waves many times. The first day at the beach, we got there and it started raining. We figured it didn't matter since we were already in our swimsuits. There was a pretty rainbow afterwards. The kids loved playing in the sand and the waves. Damon and Tommy especially loved it! They would roll in the sand, do somersaults and cartwheels into the water, and ride the waves. That night Barrett cooked us hot dogs and hamburgers. Grandpa bought the movie Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs for the kids to watch...they loved it! Damon is still quoting from it. We tried to hop on the 25 cent trolley one day, but ended up walking all the way to the boardwalk. Grandma bought snowcones and we all had red mouths afterwards. We found the trolley and took it home and the kids loved it. Tommy was so exhausted he fell asleep. We went to the beach later that day and enjoyed it...it rained a little again. Barrett had to leave to go to Youth Conference back in Palmyra. He said he felt like serious deja vu...they basically did all the same things we did for our family reunion. The next morning we went to the beach. The older kids helped Grandpa push the wagon full of our beach stuff while the rest of us drove down. It was so cute to see these little kids pushing the wagon. Kim and Dad helped protect all the kids from being washed out to sea. Favorite Aunt Kim helped the kids build a sand castle and made them mermaid/mermen. Dad and Becca boogie boarded and got some pretty awesome waves. Dad went and bought Capriotti's yummy sandwiches for lunch! We took the kids to a park that evening. On Friday, Kim and Dad woke up early and left to move Kim's belongings out west. We were sad to see them go...the beach wasn't the same. We drove to the beach that afternoon and on the way there Gavin turns to Damon and says,"Damon, where's your dad?" (apparently they had just noticed he hadn't been around for over a day). Damon replied,"Oh, he's on the farm. He's a farmer." It was hilarious! The kids were way more daring and we were short a few hands. Damon and Caroline loved waiting for a huge wave, then jumping down to be carried away. Damon flipped over once maybe twice, but was mad when I hauled him out of the water, so back into the water he went. They were crazy. That night the kids got to make little pizzas. The next morning we all packed up to head separate ways. Mom went back with Julie and her kids. Becca and Henry came home with me. My mom gave all the kids little packs of M&Ms before they got in the car. It was sad to say good bye to everyone.
